Spectre: is your home ready?
The right home-charging setup can make Spectre feel effortless to own. Start with where you park, the electricity supply and the journeys you actually make.
At a glance
- Start at home: plan the parking position, cable route and installation assessment.
- Choose suitable power: a car’s maximum AC rate is not the output every home can provide.
- Make it routine: use the car’s charging information and departure planning.
Choose a charger around your routine
An overnight parking window gives a charger time to replace the energy used during the day. Start with your regular mileage and how long Spectre normally stays at home.
Rolls-Royce’s charging guidance quotes AC capability of up to 22kW. That is a vehicle capability, rather than a promise that every property can supply it.
A qualified installer should assess the supply, available capacity, cable route and charger position before you choose the installation.
7kW or 22kW: what changes?
Energy Saving Trust explains that a 22kW AC installation requires a three-phase supply. A suitable 7kW installation can be a practical option to discuss for a single-phase property.
Choose around the energy you need to replace and the time available. A higher charger rating only helps when the supply and vehicle can both use it.
Ask for the expected output at your property and the complete installation scope. Those details are more useful than choosing the largest number on a wallbox.
Plan the cable path before installation
Park as you normally would, then check the route between the proposed charge point and the car’s charging connection.
Allow for a different parking direction, another car on the drive and where the cable will be stored. A convenient daily connection is part of the ownership experience.
Prepare for departure
Spectre charging information can be viewed in the car or through Whispers. Rolls-Royce also describes departure planning through SPIRIT or the app to precondition the car.
Ask the Edinburgh team to demonstrate the functions for your particular motor car and explain the appropriate day-to-day charging settings.
Model year matters. Confirm the charging specification for a Spectre or Spectre Series II rather than transferring older rapid-charging times to a newer car.
Keep public charging in the plan
If your week includes longer trips or time away from home, identify convenient charging stops before departure.
Rolls-Royce explains that untethered public AC points require a suitable charging cable, while rapid DC chargers have a tethered cable. Check the equipment supplied with your chosen car.
Our Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Edinburgh specialists can discuss the Spectre range alongside the charging arrangements that fit your home and travel.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a 22kW home charger for Spectre?
Not necessarily. Choose an installation around your property’s supply, the vehicle specification and your regular charging window. A 22kW AC installation requires three-phase electricity.
Can I use an ordinary domestic socket?
Rolls-Royce describes its compatible occasional-use charging cable as an alternative when fixed charging is unavailable. It delivers less power than a wallbox; discuss a dedicated installation for routine home charging.
Can Spectre prepare itself before I leave?
Rolls-Royce describes departure planning through SPIRIT or Whispers for preconditioning. Ask the team to demonstrate the functions and settings for your model year.
Should I use one charging-time figure for every Spectre?
No. Confirm the model year and charger conditions. Spectre Series II has different published charging performance from earlier cars.
Who can help me choose a Spectre?
Contact Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Edinburgh through Grange to discuss the current range and arrange an appointment. A qualified installer should assess the electrical work at your property.
