With the launch of the new generation of its Super Series, McLaren have entered the exciting electrifying era with the new Artura.

McLaren Super Series

The McLaren 720S marks the start of the second generation of the 'Super Series' car range. The 720S's heritage can be traced back to the 12C that pretty much kickstarted the modern McLaren which is pictured below on the left.

The McLaren Super Series: The History

The McLaren 12C

The car that really started the Super Series. First unveiled in 2009 as the MP4-12C and renamed in 2012 to just 12C a year after going into production as a Coupe and then with the Spider model that followed.

Early cars featured a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 592bhp. Power was later increased to 616bhp – enough to take it from 0-60mph in just 3.1s, and a top speed of 207mph.

The McLaren 650S

Originally designed as the sister car to the 12C, the 650S ended up being the 12C's replacement and featured a modified version of the same 3.8-litre V8 but producing 641bhp.

McLaren's ability to balance responsiveness and feel with a comfortable ride were thanks to a hugely improved chassis and better steering. Top speed was the same as the 12C with a slightly faster 0-60mph.

The McLaren 650S Spider

The 650S Spider was a special car because it used the same carbon frame as the Coupe which was built so strong that it did not need any additional strengthening. This meant it drove pretty much exactly like the Coupe.

0-62mph was the same and it topped out at 3mph less (just 204mph!). A really impressively engineered car.

The McLaren 675LT

The 675LT was McLaren's answer to the 458 Speciale. It was faster and lighter than the 650S. 0-62mph took just 2.9s and it would top out at 205mph but had an astonishing power-to-weight ratio of 542bhp-per-tonne making it feel faster than anything McLaren had built before it in this range.

Just 500 of these special cars were built.

The McLaren 675LT Spider

The 675LT Spider was to be the last of the first-generation of McLaren Super Series cars and possibly the finest.

The new 720S is the embodiment of extreme motoring performance, crafted luxury and unparalleled responsiveness.
