McLaren GTS: pack for a weekend away
Two luggage areas give the GTS a useful touring side. Make the most of them by checking the shape of your bags, as well as the headline capacity.
At a glance
- 150 litres in front and 420 litres behind the cabin: manufacturer figures.
- Two separate spaces need a different packing plan from one conventional boot.
- Try your own bags and confirm the correct luggage-retention equipment.
What does 570 litres actually mean?
McLaren quotes 150 litres of luggage capacity at the front of the GTS and 420 litres at the rear. Together that is 570 litres, but it is distributed between two different spaces rather than one large, regularly shaped boot.
For a two-person weekend, the useful question is whether your particular bags fit. A long rear deck and a separate front compartment ask different things of a suitcase, weekend bag or garment carrier.
Plan around the car and your passengers
Make a simple packing list before a viewing: two people’s clothes, shoes, a coat each and anything needed for the journey. Bring the bags you expect to use rather than guessing their size from a luggage-capacity figure.
Try the seats in the positions you and your passenger will use. Then ask the McLaren team to demonstrate access to both luggage areas and show how the bags can be loaded, secured and removed without forcing anything into place.
Use the rear space with a retention plan
The rear luggage area sits below a full-length glazed tailgate. McLaren’s GTS press information describes electric tailgate operation with a soft-close function. Ask for a demonstration on the car you are considering.
The current 2026 European GTS handbook identifies two luggage-retention points behind the front seats and four folding points in the rear compartment. The illustrations below come from that GTS-specific owner documentation.
Secure the load, not just the lid
McLaren’s handbook warns against carrying unsecured objects in the rear luggage area. It also explains that the load and its distribution affect handling and that large objects can obstruct the driver’s rearward view.
Ask the team which retention products are correct for the car and how to use them. Check the handbook’s compartment and retention limits; a volume in litres is not a permitted load in kilograms. Avoid treating the rating of an individual fixing point as a total compartment allowance.
A useful way to compare your bags
Start with the items whose shape cannot change, then work around them with smaller bags. Leave room to use the approved retention equipment and check that the luggage does not interfere with visibility or any closing mechanism.
For specialist equipment such as golf clubs, bring the actual bag and accessories. A manufacturer’s example of what can be carried is a starting point, rather than a guarantee that every bag of that type will fit.
Make practicality part of your viewing
The GTS is worth exploring with a real journey in mind. A packing demonstration alongside a normal seating and access check can help you decide how it would fit into your life.
Contact Grange McLaren to discuss the current range and arrange a suitable viewing. Tell the team you would like to check luggage space and bring your bags; vehicle availability and demonstrations should be confirmed in advance.
Your questions answered
How much luggage space does the McLaren GTS have?
McLaren quotes 150 litres at the front and 420 litres at the rear, totalling 570 litres. These manufacturer figures describe two separate storage areas.
Will a particular suitcase or golf bag fit?
Check the actual item in the car. Its shape, the compartment opening, load limits and the correct retention arrangement matter as well as the quoted volume.
Can I leave bags unsecured in the rear?
McLaren’s GTS handbook warns against unsecured objects in the rear luggage area. Ask your McLaren team about the correct retention equipment and follow the vehicle’s current instructions.
