Legacy Models: McLaren 12C Spider
Everything For A Reason
After the introduction of the McLaren F1 model, the 12C and 12C Spider were the first road cars to follow – and with those models, every inch and every detail was crafted to enhance McLaren’s performance and thrilling drive. The McLaren 12C and 12C Spider became the most capable supercars on the road.
Both models were equipped with the powerful V8 engine, which offered unrivalled power and performance. The innovative Brake Steer system meant that the traction, understeer and oversteer could be managed confidently and effortlessly for optimum handling.
Both models featured the iconic McLaren dihedral doors, first seen on the F1 model, which elegantly swung out like a pair of wings, bringing the models to life. Using a single hinge, the doors required less room to open to make it easier for the driver and passenger to enter and exit the cabin.
Carbon fibre was used across the models too, to ensure the models were extremely lightweight yet highly durable and strong. McLaren are known for using carbon fibre as the core of every model they have produced – and then finished with only the best paint technique, by hand.
The roof of the 12C Spider simply enhances the thrill of the drive, offering the ultimate open top drive. The roof retracts in just 17 seconds, and is achieved through a two-piece fully automated design that can be deployed up to a speed of 19mph. When the roof is down, the model’s performance is just as impressive, but the experience changes as the roar from the V8 engine becomes the driving soundtrack and you can feel the wind in your face.
The attention to detail continues onto the interior of the 12C and 12C Spider, with every detail of it designed around you with a stunning panoramic view of the road.
The cabin is fitted with carbon black leather throughout, with the option to add electric and heated memory seats to enhance the driving experience, and keep both the driver and their passengers comfortable even when the hood is down.
As with most models in the McLaren range, the 12C and 12C Spider featured only the most up-to-date technology. This included intuitive telematics and a touchscreen that gave you control over the full infotainment system and media and communication systems, including navigation and a bespoke seven speaker audio system.
