Stingray: Coupe or Convertible?

The Stingray offers open-air driving in two different ways. Choose between a removable Coupe roof panel and a power-folding Convertible hardtop, then match the cabin grade to your driving life.

At a glance

  • Coupe: a removable roof panel, with a different handling and storage routine from the Convertible.
  • Convertible: a retractable hardtop; Chevrolet’s UK brochure quotes 16 seconds and operation at up to 50km/h.
  • Same core character: UK 6.2-litre V8, rear-wheel drive and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Confirm the model year of the actual car.

A roof decision, not just a body style

The Coupe is worth exploring if you enjoy the removable-panel approach and want to understand how it fits your packing routine. Ask to see the panel handling and storage arrangement before making your choice.

The Convertible suits buyers who want to change between a closed hardtop and open-air driving electrically. Its roof folds into the engine compartment, rather than following the Coupe’s removable-panel routine.

Convertible: roof convenience in everyday use

Chevrolet’s April 2026 UK brochure says the retractable hardtop folds away in 16 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h, approximately 31mph. Follow the car’s handbook and display instructions whenever operating it.

Try the closed-roof driving position as well as the open one. The Convertible is a hardtop sports car in both roles, and the roof routine should be part of the demonstration rather than an afterthought.

Coupe: understand the removable panel

The Coupe’s removable panel gives you another route to open-air driving. Ask the retailer to demonstrate the approved removal, handling and storage process for the exact car.

Include your usual luggage in that conversation. A roof panel and a suitcase are physical objects: make sure the arrangement works for the journey you have in mind, rather than relying on a boot total alone.

Pack for two storage areas

Chevrolet’s UK brochure lists 356.8 litres combined across the front and rear luggage compartments. That is not one continuous boot, and a combined figure does not tell you the shape of either space.

Bring a cabin case or soft bags and check each compartment. For the Coupe, include the roof-panel storage arrangement in your packing test; for the Convertible, ask to see the roof cycle and luggage access together.

The V8 remains at the heart of both

The UK Stingray uses the mid-mounted 6.2-litre LT2 V8 with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and rear-wheel drive. Chevrolet quotes 482hp for this UK specification; figures from a US model are not interchangeable.

Keeping the engine and transmission constant helps you focus on the roof choice. Compare Coupe and Convertible with equivalent cabin grades and the equipment you actually want.

Look closely at the UK cockpit

The April 2026 UK brochure shows a right-hand-drive cabin with a 12.7-inch central display, 14-inch driver display and a 6.6-inch auxiliary display. It gives a useful picture of the newer cockpit layout.

Available and used stock can have an earlier dashboard and control arrangement. Check photographs, the model year and the specification of the individual car before assuming it has this interior.

2LT or 3LT: choose the seat as well as the roof

Chevrolet’s UK material identifies GT1 seats for 2LT and GT2 seats for 3LT. Try the seat in the actual car: support, entry and exit, and comfort over your normal journey are personal decisions.

The UK brochure already lists heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, Head-Up Display and Performance Data Recorder for 2LT. Moving to 3LT is therefore a choice about its additional cabin specification, rather than a requirement for those particular features.

A 3LT Coupe and a 2LT Convertible differ in both cabin grade and roof. Compare equivalent grades first, then decide whether the higher interior specification is important to you.

Small details deserve a demonstration

Ask the team to show how the transmission controls work and where your phone sits securely. Then check that your usual device and charging requirements suit the equipment fitted.

These details are easy to overlook while choosing a roof or colour. Spending a few minutes with the actual controls helps you understand the car you are buying.

Cabin equipment: compare the actual grade

The UK brochure lists the Bose Performance Series system with 14 speakers among 2LT’s standard features. It illustrates how much cabin equipment is already included before you step up to 3LT.

A photographed feature illustrates the manufacturer’s cabin design; it is not a promise that every Stingray has the same specification.

Make the cabin work around your belongings

Chevrolet’s UK brochure lists wireless mobile phone charging in the additional 3LT equipment. Check the fitted specification and your phone’s compatibility, especially when comparing a different model year or a used example.

The most useful showroom visit is specific: bring the phone, bag or case you use most, then ask the team to walk through the car in both roof configurations where available.
