Vauxhall's all-new Insignia is now on sale, priced from £17,115 on-the-road. It comes as a five-door Grand Sport hatch or a Sports Tourer estate. Some of the standard features include 17-inch bi-colour structure wheels, automatic lighting control, electrically operated front and rear windows, keyless entry and start and electrically-adjustable heated door mirrors. Inside there is cruise control with speed limiter, leather-covered steering wheel with audio, phone, and cruise controls as part of the design. The Infotainment system has an IntelliLink audio system that includes a seven-inch colour touchscreen, plus Bluetooth audio streaming and mobile phone portal. In the safety stakes, it will have the Vauxhall OnStar system that incorporates their Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Front camera system along with six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounting points on all three rear seats, tyre pressure monitoring system and security alarm system. The Jaguar Range Rover family of easily recognised vehicles include the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. Between them, they have transformed the fortunes of the UK's largest vehicle manufacturer. Now, a new model as joined the impressive line-up, the Velar. And in a real boost for the under pressure British car industry, the company confirmed that the Velar will be built exclusively at its flagship Solihull plant in the West Midlands. Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, said: "The expansion of our product range and building this British designed and engineered car in the UK is a sign of our confidence in British manufacturing. We are leading the global premium car industry with our commitment to our home market and our heart, soul and headquarters will always be in the UK." Jaguar Land Rover accounts for 85 per cent of all premium cars produced in Britain and contributes £10bn to the UK economy every year. Last year, they sold 583,313 cars - more than one every minute, 44 per cent of which were Range Rovers. Production of the Jaguar Land Rover models in the UK supports more than 40,000 British jobs and there are a further 250,000 jobs working within the supply chain.
Volkswagen all but made half a million worldwide sales in the first month of 2017. In all, 495,900 vehicles to handed over to customers throughout the world. However, this is a 4.9% fall compared with the previous year. J??rgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, said that the "Volkswagen brand started 2017 successfully. Worldwide deliveries may be slightly below the value for the previous year, but this is solely due to special effects in the major market of China. All the other reported gratifying increases compared with the previous year." In Europe, deliveries rose by 4.7 per cent to 126,700 vehicles. This markets in Spain and Italy were notable for their positive sales. It was sales of the new Tiguan that was the bedrock for this improvement. In VW's home market of Germany, 38,600 vehicles were handed over to customers, corresponding to a slight fall of 5.1 per cent. Volkswagen's cars are present in more than 150 markets throughout the world and the company produces vehicles at over 50 locations in 14 countries. Currently, 218,000 people work for Volkswagen and they have 7,700 dealerships with 74,000 employees around the world. In 2015, Volkswagen produced about 5.8 million vehicles.
From the spring of 2017, the Skoda Citigo will look and drive a little different. Its new design includes a new front look with a redesigned bonnet, radiator grille, bumpers and fog lights. It will also enjoy a modified instrument cluster design and a new multifunction leather steering wheel. There will be development under the bonnet too, with a choice of two modern three-cylinder petrol engines with 60 PS and 75 PS that have high torque values with low noise levels. And specially designed 15-inch alloy wheels complete the new look. Thanks to its generous wheelbase, the Citigo already has an interior which offers sufficient space for the rear passengers. But, this new Citigo has grown by 34mm to a length of 3,597mm. The 251-litre boot capacity, which becomes 951-litres when the rear seats are folded down, ranks amongst the best in this segment. There is an excellent range of active safety features including the automatic braking function City Safe Drive and the optional Emergency Brake that helps to prevent collisions in urban traffic. The system uses a laser sensor that scans a 10-metre area in front of the vehicle and automatically activates at speeds between 3 and 19 mph. It's all part of ensuring a high level of safety for both drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
Dutch tyre manufacturer Apollo Vredestein has launched a completely new all-season tyre for the light truck and van market, the Comtrac 2. Specifically designed for safety and comfort in all weather conditions whilst carrying heavy loads, the Comtrac 2 sports new, high-quality silica compound and improved performance over its very popular predecessor. "The Comtrac 2 is a significant addition to our offerings, as vans and light trucks are common among fleets and we intend to target that sector with Vredestein's comprehensive range of products," said Country Manager Karl Naylor. The tyre has both open lateral shoulder grooves and wider longitudinal grooves so that water dispersion is optimized. It has an improved footprint and a new silica compound to give much better grip in the wet as well as lowering rolling resistance to reduce fuel consumption. And an increase in tread stiffness will give a balanced pressure distribution and reduced deformation under load. The new Comtrac 2 is available from launch in ten sizes.
Hyundai Motor UK has officially announced the pricing and specification of the New Generation i30. The New Generation Hyundai i30 will go on sale in the UK on 1st March. It offers a high level of standard safety equipment, with Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Collision Warning System, Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Hill Start Assist Control featuring on all models. Prices will start from £16,995 for the i30 S 1.0 T-GDi 120PS 6 speed manual, which offers 15" alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, DAB radio with USB and aux connections, Bluetooth with steering wheel controls, electric front and rear windows and driver seat height adjustment. The top of the range Premium SE enters the range at £23,495 for the 1.4 T-GDi 140PS Manual, adding panoramic sunroof, leather seat facings and a heated steering wheel to the Premium specification. Premium SE is also available with the 6-speed manual, 7 speed DCT transmission, with either the 1.4 T-GDi 140PS or 1.6 CRDi 110PS. The New Generation i30 is available in a choice of 11 colours, with a new colour Engine Red now an option alongside Polar White as a solid finish, no cost options. Additional metallic or pearl paint finishes, can be chosen for only an additional £585. Automotive expert Hpi have released the top ten best cars ideal for new drivers. Not only do they hold their valuation over time, but they are also the cheapest to run. It was calculated based on factors including price, insurance, fuel consumption, tax and emissions. Philip Nothard, retail specialist at Hpi said: "The Suzuki Celerio came out top in our best buy survey with a total cost of motoring of £7,099.95, ahead of the Dacia Sandero at £7,212 and the Peugeot 108 at £7,646." Dacia have announced their UK pricing and specifications for the new Sandero, Sandero Stepway and Logan MCV. The new models feature upgraded interior, exterior and equipment that includes more efficient SCe 75 1.0-litre engines for the Sandero and Logan MCV, a new lighting signature that introduces LED daytime running lights to the whole Dacia range, as is a DAB radio. There will be new multimedia satellite-navigation and rear parking sensors as standard on Laureate versions and air conditioning now standard on ambiance versions and above. The new Sandero is priced from £5,995, the new Sandero Stepway from £8,795 and the new Logan MCV from £6,995.
Vauxhall has released the first pictures of its all-new Insignia Grand Sport. Following on from the previous generation, which won the European Car of the Year in 2009, and sold over 30,000 in the UK last year, the Insignia Grand Sport is based on a completely new vehicle architecture. It is also the first Vauxhall with an active aluminium bonnet, improving pedestrian protection considerably. "Vauxhall is raising its game even further with the launch of the new Insignia Grand Sport," said Rory Harvey, Vauxhall's Chairman and Managing Director. "It has all of the virtues of its successful smaller brother the Astra, and takes those to a higher level. The Insignia Grand Sport will set new standards for design, efficiency, technology and connectivity when it debuts next year at the Geneva Motor Show."
Hyundai Motor UK has officially announced the pricing and specification of its multi award-winning car, the i10. The High Wycombe based company has risen from 21st in the rankings in 2008 to be one of the top 10 car manufacturers in the UK. Last year it sold a record 88,257 vehicles, which was welcomed by its more than 3,000 employees in its UK operations and dealer network. There are external changes that drivers will become to recognise across their whole range in due course as well as developments in safety, technology and the infotainment package. Prices will start from £9,250 for the i10 S, which includes new 14" steel wheels and wheel covers. The i10 SE, which builds on the S specification, will start at £10,500. The i10 SE Blue is available from £10,900, with the range topping i10 Premium SE beginning at £12,800.
